OCEANIC CIRCULATION

  • The surface current delivered to the CATSAT system is a total current that takes into account the geostrophic component, the effect of wind on the sea surface that affects the Ekman flow as well as the atmospheric pressure at the surface.

-Through ARGOS activity, CLS have privileged access to the database on-site scientific buoys submerged in various oceans of the world.

-Thus, CLS can validate on a practical way the surface current provided by numerical models and compare it with data from scientific buoys.

  • The surface current product brings very important information for offshore applications and it can help to optimize the shipping paths to provide and plan operations at sea, to follow the drift of objects on the sea surface.
