Thermocline
DEPTH AND INTENSITY
- The Thermocline is a layer that can be defined with a strong and sudden decrease of the sea temperature along a short distance. This layer separates the homogeneous surface waters from the deep cold waters. When the ocean is mixed by currents, swell or thunderstorms like in winter, there is then no Thermocline.
- Some pelagic species are sensitive to the Thermocline, depending on the species, the age or the size of the animal and the strength of the Thermocline.
