Sea surface temperature

DEFAULT TEMPERATURE

Sea surface temperature maps can help to detect areas of specific temperature ranges that are preferable to some species. The user can also visualize more easily the thermal features of the ocean structures [frontal-area eddies].

The interest of this temperature data is increased by the possibility of combining it with altimetry maps. The user can therefore visualize the thermal characteristics of the ocean structures, shown up by the surface anomalies. These maps are a high resolution product with 4km spatial resolution.

CLOUDLESS TEMPERATURE

In case of poor SST images due to important cloud coverage, the Micro-Wave measurement of the Sea surface temperature is able to provide lower resolution maps. These maps are useful as backup of the SST in region where fog or clouds hide the sea surface for long period.

The geographical coverage provided is with a final ground resolution at 10 km.
